Movie Night Snacks to Stay On-track

If you’re not out trick or treating this Halloween, you might be staying in, keeping cosy and watching a scary movie. 

Finding movie night snacks that are tasty and treat-worthy but also keep you on track to meet your fitness goals are really easy to implement and will ensure you won’t be ‘haunted’ by the post-off-plan guilt. 

Fancy something sweet?

Popcorn doesn’t have to be loaded with sugar (however tasty that sounds!)

Try these alternatives: 

  • Dark chocolate and sea salt: While the popcorn is still hot, immediately scatter with finely chopped dark chocolate and stir to melt and coat. Sprinkle lightly with sea salt and serve.
  • Your favourite nut butter: Drizzle the nut butter of your choice over some warm popcorn. Toss and serve. 
  • Honey: Simply drizzle with honey - pop it in the microwave to melt it slightly so it’s easier to cover the popcorn. Toss to coat and enjoy! Tip: Sprinkle with some salt to get that sweet and salty combo! 
  • Brown sugar and spice: You can get the traditional caramel flavour by sprinkling some raw brown sugar. For the spice, stir 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Drizzle the popcorn with melted butter and sprinkle with the sugar and spice mix. 

Or something savoury?

  • Cheese and black pepper: All you need is some extra-virgin olive oil, some shredded cheese (recommended: parmesan), salt and pepper. 
  • Garlic and herb: Mince some garlic and sprinkle your favourite herbs into some warm oil and pour over your popcorn. Sprinkle with a little salt. 
  • Salt and pepper: Simply sprinkle salt and pepper onto your popcorn and enjoy! 
  • Fruit and nuts: Throw some of your favourite dried fruit and nuts on top of your popcorn with some honey or maple syrup. 

Feeling fruity?  

Frozen grapes or dark chocolate dipped strawberries are a healthy treat that will hit those sugar cravings whilst contributing to your five a day. 

Try a homemade pick ‘n’ mix

If you’re spoilt for choice and fancy a bit of everything, try a homemade pick ‘n’ mix by combining your favourite popcorn, frozen grapes and chocolate dipped strawberries together! 

Halloween can be scary but your movie night treats don’t need to be - enjoy!
